Delphi offers sound generators for electric vehicles and hybrid tax
Although there are no standards in Europe for the moment, many manufacturers are working on sound generators, designed to prevent cyclists and pedestrians of approaching vehicles and hybrids electric. One of them, which is a major European manufacturer, has decided to use this technology in 2012 for an electric vehicle, with a product developed by Delphi.
Based on decades of expertise in alarm systems applied to vehicles, the OEM American has developed two generators of electronic sounds.
The first device is about three times lighter than a traditional system consisting of several boxes, and consumes 90% less energy, making it the most environmentally friendly available on the market today. Its structure in a single box helps to lower the costs of designing, testing and manufacturing, while its dimensions weight and to simplify its integration into the vehicle. The system produces a range of frequencies between 500 Hz and 10 kHz, and can play tunes that can represent the sound identity for each manufacturer.
For applications requiring very high quality sound, Delphi has developed a high fidelity sound generator capable of bringing the frequency to 150 Hz through a speaker cone activated by an electromagnet Weighing less than two-thirds of those normally found in conventional loudspeakers. These generators
are waterproof and can withstand the most extreme weather conditions.
